Hakim Awad, Amjad AwadItamar - Israel has arrested two Palestinians suspected of committing the deadly stabbing attack that killed five members of a West Bank settler family last month, Israel’s Shin Bet security services said Sunday.
The March 11 assault killed two adults and three of their children, including a 4-year-old boy and his 3-month-old sister, while they were sleeping in the Itamar settlement, deep inside the West Bank. Grisly scenes from the attack, along with the ages of the victims, shocked Israelis.
Israel has been conducting mass arrest raids in the neighboring Palestinian village of Awarta since the attack.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the two suspects, teenagers from Awarta, belonged to a small PLO faction, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
He said they admitted to planning and carrying out the stabbing, before fleeing to Awarta.

“They admitted to carrying out the attack, how they knifed the children, killed the 11-year old-boy, the 4-year-old boy, the parents and finally the young baby,” he said.
He identified the men as Hakim Awad, who was arrested on April 5, and Amjad Awad, who was caught on April 10. He said the pair, both under the age of 20, are believed to be related, though it was not clear how closely. Awad is a common name in the village.
The Shin Bet said the both men’s relatives have been involved in previous deadly attacks against Israelis.
Since the March 11 stabbing, five others have been arrested in Awarta, which lies just a kilometer from Itamar. Hundreds of residents, including dozens of women, have been interrogated, fingerprinted and tested for DNA evidence.
